Sliding Compound Miter Saws
Cutting timber has come a long way over the years with most workman and the average handyman starting off with the standard miter saw when they first begin making angled cuts to wood and the stanard did a pretty fair job with its circular saw blade being able to pivot both left and right. The problem is that is all the standard miter can do, so then most timber workers decided that the compound miter saw had more to offer for not much more money.
While the compound miter saw also can pivot left and right it can also perform bevel cuts and some models will allow you to perform both actions at once. Certainly saving time on the job and with less mess and work. The other type of miter saw available is the sliding compound miter saw, this one is just the same as a compound miter saw but it has an extension arm that will let you make nice long straight cuts with one big sweeping motion. The other benefit of the multi functional sliding miter saws is that as it has a depth gauge you can lower the blade and make cuts to a set depth, particularly handing when you are working dadoe rails and such. If your take care of your saw and the blades you will find that the machine will last you a life time of hard work. Keep the blade clear of rust and dust and always use the right saw blade for the cutting job that you are performing.
It may seem obvious, but the surface that you place your compound miter saw should be flat and sturdy, so often while in a hurry you may get the urge to set it up any where, but don’t it can damage the machine and you will not get the same quality results. Keeping dust away from the work area is a lot easier if you fit a dust bag to your Compound Miter Saw, it will help to keep your work shop clean as well.
