If picture frames or skirting boards are more your bag then the compound miter saw will be the best for you as well as going from right to left it also goes up and down giving even you the option of even more varied cuts. If you find that you need to make long cuts in longer pieces of wood in one pass you will get better use out of a sliding compound miter saw. This saw has a sliding arm and will make a huge difference if you need this feature. Each saw will come with different size blades ranging from the biggest at 12 inch through 10 inche to 8 inch. Make sure that one of the features is a blade guard that is self retracting so that your view of the work and your cutting line is not obscured. If you can buy the best quality machine that you can afford, then you will get add benefits like electric brakes that will stop the blade in a fraction of the time of a normal stop. Another safety feature to look at is a safety clamp to hold your work in place no matter what. Some models come with a laser guide this will make your cuts as easy and straight as possible as you just follow a visual line to follow.
